What is the IELTS test?
An international test of your English across four skills, scored from 0 to 9. It comes in two types:
- Academic: For university admission and postgraduate study
- General Training: For immigration and work
- Listening: 30 min
- Reading: 60 min
- Writing: 60 min
- Speaking: 11–14 min
What score do you need?
| Goal | Score usually required |
| University study abroad | 6.5+ |
| Master's in Jordan | 5 – 6.5 |
| Work | 5.5+ |
| Immigration | 6+ |
|---|
These are the common scores. Every university and organization sets its own requirements. For a master's in Jordan, the score depends on your field: 5, 5.5 or 6.5.

Frequently asked questions
What IELTS score do I need for a master's in Jordan?
It depends on your field: usually 5, 5.5 or 6.5 on IELTS Academic, taken at an approved test centre. The full table is on the "English for master's admission" page below.
How many lessons do I need to prepare for IELTS?
It depends on your current level and the score you need. In your first lesson, the tutor assesses your level and tells you roughly how many lessons you'll need.
Do tutors prepare for both Academic and General Training?
Yes. Tell your tutor which one you need, in a message before you book or in your first lesson, and they'll plan your lessons around it.
Can you help with writing and speaking?
Yes. The lesson is just for you, so you can focus on the skill you need: writing, speaking, reading or listening.
How do online lessons work?
Over live video between you and the tutor. The "Join the lesson" button appears in "My Bookings" shortly before the lesson. You need a device with a camera, a microphone and a good internet connection; a laptop or tablet works better than a phone.
How much does a lesson cost?
Each tutor sets their own price, which you'll see on their card before you book. Lessons are 50 minutes, and you pay for each lesson separately, with no subscription.
Can I try a lesson before committing?
Yes. Book your first lesson with any tutor at half price, then decide whether to continue.
